I like to keep several of my favorite motivational quotes on stickies around my monitor. With the week about to start, I’m sharing one of mine, and would love to hear some of yours in the comments.

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle: when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.

It’s always fun to see the origin of quotations – check out the history of this one from QuoteInvestigator.

  1. A friend of mine, who’s a life coach, told me this story once to use on a new age girl I knew. The story worked very well when I recited it but nothing happened:

Long ago there was a Sufi master who lives somewhere in the desert. As part of his spiritual practice every few months he takes one of his students to a mountain nearby. They usually stay on the mountain meditating for days. The chosen student usually would go everyday to a village not far from the mountain once a day to get food and water for himself and his guru.
One day, the student went to the village and never came back.
The guru waited for the first day on his own in the mountain but the student didn’t show up.
Second day, his student did not return. By now the master is thirsty and hungry but his spiritual strength helped him survive the night with no food or water.
Third day, by mid-day the student hadn’t showed up. The master decided to go to the village himself and see if everything is ok.
Master arrives at the village and starts asking around for his disciple.
People at the market recognised his description. And led him to a house where one of the most beautiful village whores live. They told him that’s where they saw his disciple heading. They told him the student had met her and fell in love with her.

    The master knocks the door…

The student answers it. And opens the door to see his guru and teacher…

A look of fear was on his face. ‘Why didn’t you leave me, master?’ he said.

The master smiles a loving smile and says: ‘son, you stayed with me in the darkness of the mountain all these nights and never left me, and now you want me to leave you? Never!’

    Here’s a joke:
One day Style and Mystery were camping in the woods. Suddenly, a bear appears, and Mystery starts putting on his shoes.
“What are you doing?” says Style, “you can’t outrun a bear!”
“I don’t have to outrun the bear,” says Mystery, “I just have to outrun you!”

The gazelle just has to outrun the slowest gazelle. The PUA just has to AMOG the weakest AFC. This is the reality.
